Day 5 -- April 23
The last day! When we arrived in the kitchen, fairly early, we found an assortment of thank you gifts left out for us. :-)
The night before some of us had gone down to Chapel, because we wanted to watch the staffers' skits, and we ended up getting embarrassed in front of all the campers when they called us down to tell us what a good job we had done all week. And can you imagine it, Mrs. Marques had just slipped out before they did that...
Breakfast that morning was biscuits and fruit salad, plus a few other little odds and ends that needed finishing up.
At first we thought we didn't have any flour to keep the dough from sticking to the counter. That's not a huge issue; just make drop biscuits!
Then Mrs. Marques did find some flour (which Mrs. Baber had used the night before for her cookies), so they made some rolled biscuits too. They all got eaten... except for the unfortunate biscuits on one pan that got neglected in the oven. They weren't burnt... but they were a little over-brown. ;-)
For some reason it took us forever to get all cleaned up, packed up, and ready to head off. One thing after another kept stalling our departure. But finally, after one last look in the quiet kitchen, we left Twin Oaks behind.
Before heading north to Austin, we went south to San Marcos. Caro is wanting to get a hope chest, and she had seen one in a certain store in that town. They didn't have one on stock anymore, but Mrs. Marques was able to order it. You would have laughed to see us all gravitating towards all the comfortable beds and couches arranged around the store, as if we were drawn by a magnetic force!
Nicole had graciously invited us to her house for lunch, as well as the Apodaca family. We got there much later than everyone else, but the food was still warm and it was good to get out of the suburban.
Abby was quite energized, and went around to everyone asking him or her to listen to her "belly" with a toy stethoscope. Of course before you could get anywhere near to touching her she would scream with laughter as if you were tickling her to death. :-D
Mrs. Apodaca then took me home, where I took a short nap before unpacking all my stuff. It had been a wonderful week!
