Day 4 -- April 22
This morning we served leftover pancakes for breakfast, so preparations and serving were minimal. There was plenty of time to chat as we waited for the last campers to go through the line and then to do all the cleaning.
Around 9 o'clock, Mrs. Apodaca and Nicole arrived with their small entourage. :-) We all met up outside our cabin.
The children played around on the basketball court for awhile while the moms visited, then we decided to go for a walk down to the river.
We were surprised to find some very strange inhabitants of the field next to the property where we were walking....
So, how many people can you get onto a floating dock before it tips too far into the water? ;-)
Then of course we all had to go across the rope bridge that went across a dry-water bridge... all except myself, who ran around to the other side to get pictures, and Mrs. Apodaca, who is due in August. Here are Jacob and Sophia coming across.
After getting back from the river, some of us went to the kitchen to get a drink. We all met back up together in the chapel, where Sophia "performed" for us on the piano (which is actually electrically hooked up to play by itself). Next Jacob played a real piece for us.
When you get the Apodaca and Marques families together, you can be sure that you are going to eat well! Lunch was a vast spread of options around tacos (using up some of the leftovers from the night before), which we ate in one corner of the dining room.
The Apodacas took off shortly after eating, so they could get back for naps, but Nicole stayed with her three little ones until after dinner.
During the afternoon we girls (or should I say, young ladies) took the suburban up the road into Buda, to walk the short row of antique shopping holes. There was a yarn store, which was quite fascinating; an antique store with lots of dishes and books; a "stuff and frills" store that I did not go far into at all, because it was so packed that it made me claustrophobic; and a couple of clothing shops. This is Jennifer lifting up Sophia to show her something in the first antique store. Her flower crown had come from earlier in the day -- we had gone walking around the campground, and Elena made it for her.
Elena had also knitted a baby hat, which she tried to model on Dominique. He would have none of it -- the hat would stay on for only about 2 seconds (at the most) before he would pull it off and grin at everyone to show how clever he was.
Late that evening, after we had gotten all our work done, one of the moms who had been at the camp for both weeks came in to make some Snickerdoodle cookies. She made little treat baskets to give to some of the legislators who had helped out a lot with TeenPact.
