The big news!
Okay, okay... so I'm behind. :-) Maybe I'll be able to make up for it by my big announcement:
Debra and Joel Jorden (a friend from church) are officially betrothed!!!!
It would probably not be appreciated if I went into a lot of detail, but suffice it to say that many hours of discussion and fellowship, as well as much prayer, have brought both families to the point where we feel that this is God's plan for us.
Joel "proposed" to Debra last Monday night, during the course of their evening walk, after (of course) having gotten permission from Daddy. Then this Sunday Daddy announced it to the church. He didn't want to just say blandly, "Debra and Joel are betrothed...." Instead, he put together a small betrothal ceremony in which Debra and Joel vowed their commitment to each other. It wasn't a marriage ceremony, but it was definitely more than just saying that they are hoping to get married.
After Daddy announced the two involved parties, he asked Joel to come escort Debra to sit next to him, as she will do when she is his wife.
Debra, reading her part of the vows.
Betrothal is different than engagement. Although it's not what you might typically think of as betrothal (when the parents decide a match without the girl and/or boy having a say in the matter), it's definitely more binding than engagement.
And now, wedding preparations ensue.... :-)
